Gerry’s Group Vice Chairman Amin Wali Mohammad has been appointed as a Member of the Governing Body of the Pakistan Tourism Development Endowment Fund (PTDEF) by the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination, for a three-year term.
What PTDEF Actually Does
The PTDEF isn’t PTDC itself — it’s a dedicated marketing and promotion fund, originally seeded with Rs1 billion, created specifically to finance Pakistan’s tourism marketing campaigns and destination promotion at home and internationally. Private-sector representation on its governing body has historically been used to bring commercial, on-the-ground industry perspective into how that promotional spend gets prioritized, rather than leaving those decisions entirely to government officials.
Why This Appointment Matters for the Trade
Mohammad brings direct private-sector experience across travel, aviation, and tourism through his role at Gerry’s Group — one of Pakistan’s largest travel and aviation services groups, and the GSA/GHA for multiple international carriers operating in the country. His presence on the Governing Body means the fund’s marketing and destination-development decisions will have direct input from someone who deals daily with airline capacity, ground handling, and travel trade operations — a practical bridge between government tourism policy and the commercial realities agencies and operators face.
In His Own Words
Commenting on the appointment, Mohammad said Pakistan has “extraordinary tourism potential, from its natural landscapes and cultural heritage to its historic and religious sites,” and that he looks forward to contributing private-sector experience toward sustainable tourism development and strengthening Pakistan’s international tourism profile.
What to Watch
Over his three-year tenure, Mohammad’s role will center on supporting sustainable tourism initiatives, encouraging investment, and strengthening international connectivity — areas where PTDEF’s marketing budget and Gerry’s Group’s aviation network could plausibly intersect, particularly around promoting new international routes into Pakistan.
